I am kicking off a new project/challenge know as '100 strangers.' The purpose of the assignment is to meet, and photograph a total of 100 individuals. The result will be some valuable practice setting up an impromptu composition on the spot, with a focus on continual improvements on style and technique as the project continues onward. Also there is the major fun factor of meeting a whole lot of people I wouldn't otherwise! The project is officially underway, and I will start to post the results shortly!

I've just added ten new photographs I'm really excited about. They were part of an experiment to use longer shutter speeds, an area I've much neglected due to a regular necessity to shoot handheld. I like them so much I've added them to my gallery, or they can be viewed in my latest addition to the site: new stuff.

Welcome to Pura Vida Photography, my portfolio, and space on the web. It's the home of my favourite work, and a place to show where I am taking it next.

The title was adopted after I visited Costa Rica a couple years ago. Literally translated it's 'pure life'. To me it has more or less become a sort of personal mantra. It reminds me to live in the moment, and above everything else enjoy myself in my pursuits.

My interest in subjects range considerably. I consider photography an art that I will by no means ever master. It is a constantly evolving creative process for me, and that is part of the appeal. I really enjoy portraiture; and the whole social aspect that comes with it. However I always enjoy challenging myself with landscapes, travel shots, and a myriad of other experiments.

I hope you enjoy my work,

Douglas Dryburgh
